UKULELE, which stands for UK User-Led Environmental Lab Excellence, is a working group whose goal is to provide resources to improve the sustainability of lab operations across campus. Teaching and research laboratories are critical to meeting the University of Kentucky's mission, but they have intense energy and material footprints. Labs and research facilities account for 36.5% of the university's total energy consumption while only making up 22.5% of the campus total square footage. UKULELE uses a collaborative, user-focused approach to promote energy efficiency, water conservation, waste reduction, lab safety, and research excellence.
