Tracy Farmer Institute for Sustainability and the Environment presents Adam Becker: More Everything Forever

Adam Becker, author of More Everything Forever: AI Overlords, Space Empires, and Silicon Valley’s Crusade to Control the Fate of Humanity. More Everything Forever was named a Best Book of the Year in 2025 by Scientific American, Kirkus, and Conversation. Adam, who became a science journalist and author after earning his PhD in astrophysics, also hosts a new and growing podcast called Dreaming Against the Machine, in which he interviews expert guests about how to envision better futures.   

R.C. May Photography Lecture Series: Clarissa Tossin

Clarissa Tossin will discuss the role of photography in her artistic practice, from her student work at the Fundação Armando Álvares Penteado to her recent solo exhibition at the Museu de Arte São Paulo (MASP), São Paulo. Tossin’s study of the layered residues of colonialism, resource extraction, and consumer accumulation has been supported by fellowships from the American Academy in Rome, Graham Foundation for Advanced Studies in the Fine Arts, and Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study.

Bee Banquets in the Sky: Trees and Shrubs for Urban Pollinator Conversation

Tree Week is right around the corner, and UFI is kicking it off with the fall seminar series! Start your Tree Week on October 8 with Dr. Dan Potter, UK’s Professor Emeritus of Horticultural Entomology, who will address pollinator conservation in his presentation “Bee Banquets in the Sky.” The presentation is at 7:00 pm in UK’s Davis Marksbury Building, 329 Rose Street, and tabling and light refreshments will begin at 6:00 pm.

Rural communities across the Appalachian region face new challenges and possibilities as a result of changing economic and political landscapes. The UK Appalachian Center & Appalachian Studies Program will host a public panel as part of a larger series to bring together John Gaventa and Loka Ashwood, John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation fellows, for a conversation with Gabe Schwartzman (UT), Shaunna Scott (UK Sociology emeritus) and Kathryn Engle, UK Appalachian Center director. 

Climate Change Quilt Project: The Hidden Consensus on Climate Change

To help raise awareness for climate action across America, the Lewis Honors College, the Tracy Farmer Institute for Sustainability and the Environment, and the Student Sustainability Council are hosting the Climate Change Quilt project on February 17. From 11 AM - 12 PM, Mischen will speak on “The Hidden Consensus on Climate Change” and provide a history of the quilting project inspired by the AIDS Quilt Project from the 1980s in the William T. Young Library Alumni Gallery.
